How to Install Windows on a Chromebook

Chromebook is not compatible with Windows, and usually, you cannot install the Windows on your Chromebook. But on several Chromebooks, there are many informal ways of installing the Windows. To install the Windows on a Chromebook, you need to flash the BIOS of Chromebook, reinstall the write-protect driver and to install the OS.

  • Flashing the BIOS of Chromebook
  • By going to the terminal type “shell,” you need to press on the Enter button.
  • This procedure helps you to use the Linux shell environment.
  • By going to the terminal window, you need to execute the below-mentioned command for downloading and running the script which will help you to replace the Chromebook BIOS:
~; curl -L -O http://mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh; sudo bash firmware-util.sh
The above-mentioned command helps you to change the home directory. Download the script file.
  • You need to go through the developer site in case you wish to get more information regarding the script.
  • By going to the menu list, select the “Custom coreboot Firmware” option.

  1. Go to the official site.
  2. Press on the Download tool now option.
  3. Choose the Create installation media for another PC option.
  4. Start downloading the ISO file.
  5. Start downloading and running the Rufus Utility.
  6. It will help you make the Windows installer USB driver.
  7. Connect the USB drive into the computer.
  8. You can use the USB drive for the Windows installer any file inside it.
  9. Launch the Rufus application.
  10. Choose the USB drive.
  11. Choose the “GPT partition scheme for UEFI” before you move forward.
  12. It will save the default setting tab once you have chosen the ISO file.
  13. You need to go through the settings tab.
  14. After that, press on the Start option to make the installation media of the Windows USB.

  1. Place the USB drive into the Chromebook.
  2. Turn on the Chromebook.
  3. It starts booting the USB drive.
  4. For this procedure, you need to click on the key after the “Select Boot Option” shows on the desktop once you have chosen the “Boot Manager” option.
  5. After that, choose the USB device by going to the menu list.
  6. Then, you will get the Windows installer on the screen.
  7. Pair with the USB mouse or the USB keyboard.
  8. Start installing the Windows.
